Square Enix Written Test 筆記試験

Hi everyone,

I applied a few weeks ago for a job at Square Enix (not engineer-related) and cleared the two first steps.

Now the 筆記試験 (written test) is coming. HR dude said it’s not a SPI test (synthetical personality inventory) but an internal, unique stuff. Has to be done thru Word in about one hour. Not any further clue about the content.

Since the job involves multi-languages, writing and communication skills, I guess exercises involving these topics have some big chance to come up.

What else do you think they can ask me?
What would you research / study about if you were me?
Has anyone here been already working for Squeenix?
Have you heard of this rumor of acquisition by Sony?

Already got some good info by searching スクウェア・エニックス 筆記試験 就活 etc but gaijin help would be immensely appreciated 👍

Big thanks

  1. oh dang . no useful info from me here, but wanted to say good luck! and would be awesome if you could do a follow up post after your written test.

  2. The Sony rumor has been out in the industry for some time now (at least a year) and nothing has happened so far. Who knows. It may happen it may not. Wouldn’t put too much stock into it or make your decision dependent on it. Good luck.

  3. I did test some springs ago for a localization team position. The written test was to make an original story with SQEX characters in my native language. And I failed lol. But there was no time limit like that.

  4. I’ve had a few friends apply for SE translation/localization. Part of the application was that they had to write essentially a fanfiction using Final Fantasy characters and world of their choice, with a predetermined scenario. It was in English, their native language. I’m guessing this was to just test writing skill.

  5. Nothing to offer other than more than a decade ago a friend of mine took their translation test and didn’t pass. He said the hardest part was a conversation between a knight and a pirate. They don’t fuck around.
