Can I quit a Baito I just started?

Hello !

Today was my 3rd shift (11am-9pm) at a famous sushi chain and I’m already 100% sure I need to leave this place. It’s incredibly tiring work and I’ve become needled out as a screw-up because I can’t keep up with the pace – most of my co-workers are rude and impatient with me . In addition I have Type-1 Diabetes and it’s clear there’s just no leeway to control it in this job.

I don’t have my boss’ number so I would need to see him in person to tell him to I want to quit, but the idea of doing even another shift makes me sick… Am I able to even quit on the 3rd day? and how soon can I stop working . . thank you

  1. Some places have policies but you need to get out asap for your health. You better go get that phone number.

  2. Yes you can and you should if it really makes you sick. If he asks questions you can also just tell him that you got another offer. However I would keep in mind the work schedule. So if you don’t have his number show up a few days before your next ship and just tells him you want to leave. So he has still time to search for an alternative.

    Good luck 🤞

  3. If you can’t call the boss, call anyone or show up ASAP before your shift and let them know.

The fact that the workplace is a bad match for your condition and you’re worried about your health should be enough for them to leave you alone.

  4. You’re not an indentured servant, you can quit. Just tell them that the pace of the work isn’t possible with your medical condition.

  5. You don’t need to talk to the boss you need to tell it to your manager.

  6. IMO quitting after a few days is more expectable than trying to string it along for several weeks and then quitting. You haven’t yet established any commitment.

When you do talk to them and say you’re quitting, given the POV of the rudeness of the workplace, the boss may try to bully you into staying. Just say no, that you won’t be back, and ignore/forget any harassment that happens at this point.

  7. i used to do baito at a famous sushi chain as well and reading your post gave me war flashback lol you can also call the number written on the restaurant’s google map page, ask the receiver to give the phone to your boss and then you can explain your situation there. make sure to call outside of peak hours!

  8. You cannot quit. You must stay there until you can’t fit your pacemaker and colostomy bag behind the counter. At which point you will choose which one to leave at home and which to bring into baito with you.

Anything less than dying on the job will be a shame on your family that they will never live down. Your relatives will be forced into exile and they will need an official pardon from the emperor/your shift manager if they ever want to set foot on hallowed Japanese soil ever again.

TLDR it’s fucken baito dude, just don’t go.

  9. Yes. It’s early enough to just never go back and block all contact.

Of course it’s not recommended, obviously, but I also worked for a few years in a highly toxic part time job environment – and yes – even always-perfect-rule-following-4ever native Japanese people did this very thing after a few days when they got a load of what they’d have to work around.

Run and don’t look back. Now.

  10. Hey want not tough it out and get better at where you lack? Learning skills takes time. However yes you can just quit
