This will be my final autumn in Japan, so I am determined to get the timing of the yellow leaves right, as I didn’t have time to see them last year.
I know the info gets released on Japan meteorological website, but I am looking for personal anecdotes/opinions. I am mainly curious on peoples thoughts RE this year being hotter than usual, if the leaves turn yellow later then it could cause issues for a lot of people who want to travel to Tokyo on the Labour Day weekend (23 Nov).
On that note, I heard that the gingko avenue in Tokyo is under construction, is it still even worth going? Are there better spots? (I am in Shizuoka). I also want to visit Sobue-cho in Nagoya, which is scheduled either one week before or after Tokyo iirc.
Finally, how long do the leaves stay yellow for? I’ve read that its nothing like sakura season, where it is like one week peak, and that icho is far more generous but how generous? Would it still be advised to visit on the day recommended by the Japan meteorological agency or one week before/after to potentially avoid crowds and still get some good shots?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice! I hope we can all enjoy icho/momiji this Autumn!
