Can Permanent Residents in Japan Withdraw Lump Sum Pension Contributions?

Dear fellow Redditors,

After reading the rules from the website I am not certain if a PR holder can withdraw a lump sum pension or not.

I’m in an uncertain situation in my life and about my plans, and I may not be able to return to Japan in the foreseeable future.
I lived here for less than 10 years.

Given this uncertainty, I’m interested in knowing if non-EU and non-US permanent residents in Japan can withdraw their pension contributions in such a situation. Additionally, if circumstances change, and I do decide to return to Japan, would I have the option to resume making pension contributions?

I would greatly appreciate any insight or experiences.

Thank you in advance!

  1. Just keep it in and evaluate in a year. Lots of things change in a year and you might miss life in Japan and really regret it. If you make it to being able to claim a pension (if it still exists Bla Bla), it’ll be quite the benefit.
