Eda/Ichigao Station & Areas

Long story short, I’m moving from my current living situation in East Tokyo to an apartment kind of in between Eda and Ichigao station on the Denentoshi line.

I’m not super familiar with the place.

Does anyone have any info or comments they can share? About either the areas around the stations or between where I’ll be moving?

  1. Both stations areas are kind of dominated by Route 246 running right past, but you have bigger shopping areas nearby at Tama Plaza and Aobadai so more or less set for most things.

The area itself isn’t too bad. I’d think about a car possibly if you have a spot.

  2. I used to live in Eda a long time ago. There is an American-themed restaurant called Bubble Over in Ichigao. Their pecan pie is magnificent.

The area around Eda, Center Minami, and Nakamachidai are all connected by walkways and parks. You can basically walk or cycle through these areas without needing to cross a single street. (Although not the most cycling-friendly location as it is rather hilly)

There is an Ikea and a Lalaport shopping mall both about 10-15 mins away by car.

  3. I’d pick Eda for closer proximity to Azamino which has better transportation: express denentoshi train + yokohama blue line accessing Yokohama and Shin-Yokohama. In front of Azamino there is free shuttle bus to local onsen Susukino, totally recommend. Me and colleagues used to drive there every friday.

Eda and Ichigao itself is typical residential area, neighboring rice fields, highway, big road and nowhere near Yokohama seaside despite having Yokohama city address. Some cozy eatery, ramen shops, local izakayas.

If you feel like some ‘murica spirit, there is Troubador burger shop in Tama Plaza

  4. Comments: the denentoshi line is an absolute nightmare and most of it is suburbia with wannabe rich Japanese families around tama plaza.

  5. It’s a nice, peaceful area with good access to both Tokyo and Yokohama.

John’s Kitchen in Ichigao is a friendly place, and you will usually find good conversation there. Bubble Over is fantastic, too.

Overall, you could definitely do worse.
