Hello everyone!
Basically the title, I have been living in Mito for the last year and a half as a bachelors student and I am dying from boredom. I know how to speak Japanese but I struggle to form meaningful friendships with Japanese people my age. We get a few exchange students with whom I get along with but this semester there’s basically no one. So I was wondering if there was some sort of hangout place for foreigners in Mito. I enjoy clubbing but to my knowledge, nightlife here is not that big.

Hey man, you can DM me for more suggestions, but if you want the international bar it’s the drunken duck. The one in Katsuta is a bit more suited to chatting people up I think. You’ll definitely meet some people at either one of them (though your experience may vary and I haven’t been in like two years). Club Sonic (not so much a club as a DJ venue) and Lighthouse (live house) aren’t bad options for making friends either if you become a regular.
And speaking of becoming a regular: become a regular at a small business somewhere! It’s one of the best ways to meet people and become a part of the community.
Join a club. Also mito has tons of great food and events going on all the time.
