Nintendo Switch on Black Friday/Cyber Monday

Hi. Im living in Japan now for half a year, and I was thinking of buying a Nintendo Switch whilst im here. The price is really cheap compared to my home country.

However, I dont know how big Black friday / Cyber monday is here. Are there large savings to be made if you wait for mid november?

Anyone here bought it last years Black Friday? What was the price? How much difference was it from the weeks before.

And second, if i buy it here, can i buy an international version, that complies with 220v electrical outputs, or do I need to buy a converter? Because i dont want to buy it and go home for it to burn up after a week, given the difference in 100v and 220v.

Thanks for the help and info!

  1. ? did you get the wrong subreddit?

No such thing as sales on consoles in Japan. Black Friday/Cyber Monday don’t really exist here. You’ll see a sign for Black Friday, but it’s usually like 5% more tissues in this box! or 7 extra potato chips! and things like that. (clothing stores just changed their usual sales to coincide with Black Friday, but sales were happening regardless)

There is also no such thing as “international version” for any console, ever. You can buy a Japanese market console in Japan.

  2. IIRC the Switch charges over USB-C, so mostly any charger should be OK.

And neverexpect the current Nintendo console to be discounted until they release a newer one.

  3. Just buy one now. It is extremely unlikely to go on sale. Even if it does, it will likely only be a few thousand yen off.

As for your second question, the Switch charger is 100-240V, and can also charge with just USB-C, so you will be fine.

  4. If Hanshin Tigers win this year I hear there will be huge sales at Joshin electronics stores. Maybe check there?

  5. I wouldn’t count on any nintendo products to have any substantial sales. Especially their most popular console.

  6. Just buy a perfect condition used one from Surugaya or the like. I picked up a white OLED version in perfect condition for 28,000 yen a few weeks ago.

  7. Try a place like bookoff. You can see brand new (unused) switches in the box cheaper than retail. I think it’s from left over stock from scalpers who couldn’t sell when the consoles became easily available again. I saw the OLED version at the same price as the standard. I was kicking myself because I bought the standard model new at retail price lol.

  8. My cousin’s an electrical engineer. He told me that all modern devices have a voltage converter built in. All you have to due when using an electronic device abroad is get an adapter that changes the shape of the plug

  9. Buy it off the Nintendo website if you really wanna make the most of your situation. You can choose your joycon colours (which includes the new pastel colours) and you can get colour combos that aren’t typically manufactured as well.

  10. The sales for all my Japanese accounts suck compared to the American sales. Even with the exchange rates it’s still usually cheaper to buy them on the American eShop.
