I’ve been using Mercari for a long time to sell my old tech over the years (PC parts, phones, old consoles etc), and have gained some reputation (over 50 positive reviews).
Lately though, I’m really hoping there is some viable alternative
– Stuff doesn’t sell as much/as quickly as it used to
– Mercari itself has become more and more user hostile to push their app (no Mercari, I don’t want to give you my data on top of the various fees you charge me – and also I create my listings using a PC and DSLR): first no more message notifications via email, now you can’t even *buy* things without the app
I know of Yahoo auctions, but I never had much luck over there. Any more options to explore?

You absolutely can buy through the web site. O_o I do it all the time.
I’m the exact opposite: Yahoo auctions works very well for me, never had luck with Mercari.
Another problem with Mercari is that you are forced to use both the app and the website, because there are functions you can only do in one or the other. In Yahoo Auctions, everything can be done in either.
yeah.. I had to install this shit to even get my money. I can’t even check the sales history without app
What about Rakuma? I have not used it but I know that it is the Rakuten version of Mercari
If you’re already a Rakuten user, there’s Rakuma, but if you have issues with sharing personal info, and not a Rakuten user already, then Rakuma won’t be any different than Mercari for you, I think.
One thing that’s better about Rakuma as a buyer is that you can use Visa gift cards since when you enter a card, you can put a new name like CARD HOLDER, which a Visa gift card needs (Mercari will force you to use your profile name on the card so Visa gift cards won’t work…as far as I’ve tried…)
I use PayPay flea market more than Mercari. For one the fee is 5% not 10% like Mercari. I also use PayPay so have an incentive because I am used to the ecosystem of charging, etc. PayPay flea market also offer more coupons that Mercari, for me anyway.
