Language school -> Semnon Gamkou

Hi guys, i’am actually studying in a Japanese school and as I dont have a bachelor degree i would like to a vocational school
So my background is: 7 years of experience as computer designer in my country
Considering that i’m doing a 2 years language school and want to absolutely pass the N2, but i will be 31 years old, will the school accept a foreigner over 30 years old?
I heard that if they don’t want to ruin the % of employment after graduate, but as i have plenty of years of experience i think is not my case?
Also i will do the school just to be elagible for the Visa, because i already know how to work in my field (maybe i just need the japanese terms for my work)
Thank you all

  1. It really depends on the school, some are quite open to people who are changing careers (and therefore tend to be older)

  2. If you happen to be Chinese or Chinese-speaking go to the runtojapan subreddit, where there is a wealth of advice in Chinese.

    I don’t know what a computer engineer is. Basically, if you are an IT systems engineer with eight years of experience and accompanying knowhow, provided if you have N1/N2 level Japanese, you can apply for jobs directly without a degree or vocational school certificate. There is a high chance you can land jobs directly.

    As with all markets, the older you are, you less likely it is you can get on the corporate ladder.

    Also, Japanese employers will value work experience in Japan 2-3x more than work experience overseas. It is important that you get experience as an engineer in Japan sooner than later.

  3. don’t worry I went to a jidousha senmongakko there were several guys over 30 all got hired as mechanics in the end.most had N3 at best but could speak very well.
