Visiting Japan for the first time this coming December-January

Hi all,

I’ll be visiting Japan with a friend from Dec 29 to Jan 11. We’re trying to come up with a **budget itinerary** and will probably purchase a 7-day JR pass as we’re planning to visit Sapporo, Osaka, Kyoto, and other cities if it’s within time.

Basically what I want to visit/to do within our 14-day stay:
1. Shibuya crossing/Shibuya view
2. Mt. Fuji (where’s the best place to have the best view)
3. Tsukiji Market
4. Studio Ghibli Park
5. Arashiyama Bamboo Grove
6. Fushimi Inari (there’s a lot of Shinto shrines but I think this one is more familiar due to the number of torii gates?)
7. Hokkaido/Sapporo

What my friend want to visit/to do:
1. See Mt. Fuji
2. Hokkaido/Sapporo lol

Currently we booked a cheap accommodation in Shinjuku to spend NYE and roam around a bit in Tokyo (Dec 29 – Jan 2). After that, we plan on exploring outside of the capital but really don’t know where to start.

I’ve done backpacking before but it was in Singapore and it was quite easy to navigate that small country. It’s been years since my last travel abroad and I feel like I’m overthinking this. I need advice on where to go, however, I have been reading tons of material on where to go and what to do and I’m basically brain fried (information overload, there’s just so many things everywhere in Japan lol).

  1. hi!

Unless you bought a rail pass before October 1st, you missed your chance to get the lower rate and it’s now 50,000 yen for 7 days.

It’s a full 8 hours between Tokyo and Sapporo, by train.

Have you considered flying Tokyo to Sapporo, Sapporo to Osaka?

    Good luck!
