Hello there!
I’m in the process of planning to move into my partner’s apartment in Shibuya, Tokyo, within the next couple of weeks. I am a Japanese American dual citizen, while he is not a Japanese citizen. We are an unmarried gay couple.
We plan to relocate to the UK in early 2026, and I am hoping to do so on a partner visa. This is possible because my partner holds settled status in England, granting him the right to live there permanently.
However, even though we’ve been together for 2 years, we have to provide evidence of shared residence for 2+ years to be eligible for this visa. This means that I need to have my name added to his apartment’s lease agreement soon to meet the visa application deadline.
What is the process to add my name to the apartment’s lease agreement, as well as any potential obstacles we may face?

Have you tried telling your landlord someone is moving in and you need to amend your lease?
Even if you are not on the lease your updated juuminhyo should be proof enough you were living in the same household
