for some context i am 24 years old and have lived in America my whole life and I’ve always had the dream to live abroad since I was young, when I was in highschool I went on a school trip to Japan and fell in love, I have been back there several times for short 2-3 week trips but I really want move there permanently
I have been learning japanese off and on since i was 16 and I passed the n3 jlpt test about two years ago and I’m thinking of taking the n2 when it comes up. I graduated college with a BA in information technology and have been working at a company as an IT technician for about 2 years. I also currently have about 8k USD saved up specifically for this and I could definitely wait and save up more if I need to
I by no means need to move right this instant as I don’t want to rush anything I just want to know what the best course of action would be to actually move there
Some of the big reasons I want to move there are
1. The easily accessible and great public transportation and walkable streets (I hate having to rely on a car where I live to go anywhere)
2. Accessible and delicious food
3. The way the people there are kind and keep to themselves and overall how polite people are
4. The safety
5. The cleanliness and convinence of everything
Mabye I’m just dreaming but I really want to know if it would be possible to even try I’m fully aware of things like the toxic work culture and other problems the country has and I’m aware that it’s not like a perfect dream country and that it has issues like any other country I just want to experience something new and hopefully what would be a new and refreshing start in my life
Worst thing worst I can just move back if I do go and end up hating it

You’re on the right track with the degree, work experience and reasonable reasons for wanting to be here.
Check the wiki about visa eligibility. You’ll probably need a few more years of work experience and the N2 will be a nice bonus. Not all companies are awful, so focus on being great at your job and becoming desirable to good companies and you can avoid a lot of the workplace issues.

Reach out to recruiters here and start getting your resume out there. Wait until you get an offer that you can live with (be prepared for a much lower salary than what you’re getting in the US, but CoL is lower here too so it more or less balances out). Then come on over and have a ball.

That’s the right attitude. 🙂 Get in contact with some recruiters, see if they can give you feedback on how to improve your chances. Japanese language skills are always good to have, and with your IT degree and experience you should be able to find something.
