My experience with Teppei’s podcasts:

A year ago I was struggling to push myself to finish Genki 2, and decided on a whim to start listening to Nihongo Con Teppei for Beginners because I had heard so much about it. In the beginning I only understood about 30%-50% of what Teppei was saying, but I just kept going. I did other things too, like slowly working my way through grammar explanations, doing a bit of a basic vocab Anki deck, watching some beginner content on YouTube, listening to some other beginner podcasts, practicing weekly with an exchange partner, but probably 50%-80% of my time was just listening to Teppei over and over again until I slowly started to understand what he was saying, looking up words and phrases here and there.

Now, I’m almost finished listening to his Original Series and I can understand and speak so much more Japanese than I could last year. I’m definitely not fluent yet, and make a lot of mistakes, but I can carry on conversations about daily life topics for several hours with native speakers as long as they slow down a bit for me and don’t mind explaining words I don’t know. I’m even starting to dip my toes into podcasts for native speakers, like 4989 American Life, and I’m shocked that I’m mostly able to follow along with the content, even though there’s still a lot of words that I don’t know.

I credit a lot of my success in learning Japanese to this extent to Teppei. In his podcasts, especially the beginner one, he says over and over to just keep going, just keep listening, and if you continue and don’t give up, you will without a doubt keep improving, and I’ve found that to be true.

Teppei has so much content to offer!

The man is prolific (a modified Hamilton lyric comes to mind to describe Teppei “How does he talk like he’s running out of time, talk day and night like he’s running out of time?!”). I’ve tried to gather all of his contents below that I know of. Did you know he wrote a book?! Or had a podcast for native speakers that’s great for advanced learners? Or that he does livestreams? If you know of any content he’s made that I missed, please write it in the comments.

AI Transcripts are now available:

Recently, another fan of Teppei used an AI program to write transcriptions of most of Teppei’s podcast episodes and those are avaiable on Teppei’s Patreon or Kofi now. Since they are AI generated, they’re obviously not 100% accurate, but Teppei said they are much better than an auto transcription program he tried to use some time ago, and much more accurate than he thought they would be. They might prove useful to some people who can spot the transcription errors, and want an easier way to look up words while listening to Teppei’s’s podcasts.

Supporting Teppei so he can keep going:

Even if you’re not interested in the transcripts, if you’ve benefited from Teppei’s’s podcasts, I would recommend checking out his patreon if you’ve been a listener of him for some amount of time. He has surprisingly less monthly contributors then you would think, considering that his podcast is so highly or often recommended. Or he also has his italki lessons you can book.
