Anyone onboarding with Interac next week?

My flight is on Tuesday and I’m starting to get worried because I haven’t received any details about arriving at the airport procedures. They said they would send details after I sent my flight information (which I sent weeks ago). I sent a follow up email a few days ago asking when I can expect it with no response, and they won’t respond over the weekend. I mean, I can figure out how to get to my accommodation by myself but if they have specific procedures I want to do it right.

So now I’m curious as to what stage any other upcoming ALTs are at with Interac and if you have heard back from then about this yet.

  1. Ouch – and a great majority of the country is on Obon holiday until the 16th or so…

Do you have lodgings? Where they setting it up? Do you have your visa in passport already?

  2. Interac doesn’t receive people at the airport or anything like that, you just get to the hotel by yourself

  3. Think the only thing I think you need to worry about is passing customs and have all your visa stuff ready. I wouldn’t worry too much.

  4. If they have told you where the training is happening, all you need to do is show up there at the time given. They’ll handle the rest.

  5. Yeah, good luck with everything! I’m sure it will be fine. I had more or less the same situation even though I was working for a small eikaiwa. The boss was a total douche about it all. Interac don’t have a reputation for being on point. You’ve got your foot in the door and hopefully you can find your way ok!

It’s obon atm, so people are off work until Wednesday, also there is a massive typhoon headed towards Japan right now – so there is a good chance things are gonna get rearranged.

  7. I assume you know the branch you’re working with. They’ll put you in a Toyoko-inn near the office, most likely. Tho they have them all over the place. It would be nice if they had passed that info along so you could send some luggage from the airport and not have to move it yourself, if you’re going far.

I arrived in Japan 3-4 days early, and just goofed around in Tokyo and met some friends before taking the shinkansen down to my training area. You just have to get yourself to the location.

  8. Been working with them for the past year, just warning you now, get used to last minute information… they are EXTREMELY slow on telling you anything. But If you have your visa and flight all ready they will meet you and the rest of the group arriving with you and take everyone to your accommodation which if it’s the same as last year should be Narita Hotel. Obviously I’m speaking from past experience but they were slow with info then too, and have been throughout my time with them. They usually get it sorted in the end though.

  9. I received details a few weeks before arriving but I went early for a tourist holiday anyway. Just do some sightseeing and have fun until they contact you. It’s all good. You have to figure out how to get to the hotel by yourself anyway, they don’t hold your hand

  10. Did you email them? Or just wait for Friday your time zone when it was already night in Japan? Mail them again, someone will be there tomorrow.
