Taboo to apply to more than one Japanese English teaching programs?

Hello! I’ve been looking to apply to the JET program since 2020, but COVID changed my plans after graduation. I’m looking to apply to the program for 2024 with the hopes I may get in for 2025. Is it frowned upon to apply to multiple JET-eqse programs (i.e. JET, Interac, Gaba, etc.) at once or should I only pick one? (If so, I would choose JET – I think it’s the best for me from what I’ve researched, hence why I’m asking here). I appreciate any guidance or tips, thank you!

  1. I don’t think it’s taboo, you’re just making sure you have options and more opportunities.

  2. Standard job seeking advice is to apply to any job you’re interested in, and take the best offer you get, if you like it.

I recommend you chat with a trusted adult about employment in general, because there are many common misconceptions that you might have, and forewarned is forearmed.

  3. You don’t have to disclose how many jobs you have applied for, so how would they even know?
It only gets tricky if say you want A, and apply for A, B, C, and D. Then you get accepted to C, but you’re still waiting to hear back from A. C wants you to sign your contract within the next few days.
Of course you can accept C and then ditch them if you get accepted to A, but you will have burnt that bridge and you better hope you never want to work at C in the future.

  4. Each company has a different application process and timeline. Research and consider that. JET takes a long time. Each also caters to different ages for students, so consider that also. Good luck.

  5. I applied for both jet and interac for the 2022 application periods. Heard back from interac first and was interviewed and accepted all before hearing back from JET. I was supposed to leave for Japan in May but results for jet came out in March/April. Once i found out I was accepted for JET, I just emailed interac that my situation had changed and I would be rejecting their offer.

  6. Interac, Gaba, etc are not “programs”. They are jobs with for-profit companies. They hire people to provide service according to their contracts with public and private schools.
