Hello all, I’m selling my car to my successor (k-car) and was informed by my supervisor that all I need to do is leave behind my shaken certificate and they will be good to get the car in their name once they come over (will be living in same city so no need to change plates). Is this correct? I was under the impression that I would have to start the paperwork at the kei-car registration office in my town and then when my successor arrives they would complete the paperwork. Could my supervisor be correct? They looked online and according to the site it looks like all the successor needs is their juminhyou and shaken proof to get the title. I will not physically be in Japan when my successor arrives so I want everything to go as smoothly as possible once they get here.
Please enlighten me those who have purchased a car from predecessors/ have sold a car to successors. I’m in the Hokuriku region if that’s relevant.

I’d recommend checking this out. It’s not entirely your region but it looks like there is more to it then just leaving your shakken with your BOE.
Selling high budget items to successors you’ll never meet is risky. Even if you do everything right, they might not pay you. And buying things from predecessors sight unseen is similarly risky.

I was lucky enough to have my car dealer friend (had a great reputation among foreigners, sold cars, looked out for us etc smart business really) arrange all of the change over stuff when I sold my car.
Didn’t have to worry about that stuff.
I bought my friend’s kei car back in April and all I needed was the title of the car, my juuminhyou, and a copy of my friend’s insurance, although I think they didn’t even use the last bit. I went to the kei car center here in Okinawa and for an extra fee, the people at the window filled in the form with my information for me, shuffled around several windows, then finally get your new title. The only times I had to unregister my car was when I junked it and the junkyard people helped me do that.
