So I came to the Japan almost two weeks ago, and I didn’t know about the pension concept until now.
I am a language student and from what i’ve seen, I can apply for the student exemption.
Unfortunately, teachers that are assisting students with their questions didn’t tell nobody about this and when I ask them about the pension, They just said “if you are planning to stay in Japan after you finish the language school, you better pay the pension but I do not know if you will able to since it is not as cheap as health insurance”
Did she just gave me misinformation or can I really apply for the pension? Where can I learn the details and exact process about the exemption terms, details and categories?

Go to your ward office and talk to them about it.
If you didn’t already apply for student exemption when registering your address, I believe you will be enrolled by default. They should mail you a packet with payment slips in a few weeks.
The exemption exists for a reason since it is kind of steep if you’re a student without income, but it’s not like you HAVE to apply for it, you know?
I would avoid paying it if you can get an exemption..
