Spouse visa application where wife is the main breadwinner. Does this matter for the application?

I’m the husband and and my wife is the primary breadwinner in our household with 1 child.

She works in IT, and I’m in Academia (part time uni lecturer after finishing my PhD) primarily taking care of our child. Basically the traditional gender role reversed which works for our family.

She makes far more than me (700 man vs 80man / year). Does it matter to immigration that I(the person needing the spouse visa) don’t really make enough to support myself independently? Our household income is reasonably good as you can see.

Thank you!

  1. No, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that your household have a suitable income, or if your household does not have a suitable income, that a financial supporter does.

It sounds like your household income is very suitable.

  2. Should be fine… if you are making money though, you should have some visa for that or the additional endorsement on you spouse visa.

  3. Shouldn’t be a red flag.

But make sure you hop on PR as soon as you become eligible

  4. No. For spouse visa or PR through the spouse route they look at household income. If the total household income is enough income to support the number of people in the household it’s fine. Also, unless they believe the marriage is fraudulent you will get the visa anyway, even if you’re both absolutely broke, you’ll just be limited to 1 year until the situation improves

  5. It doesnt matter for the visa. But for your own sake try to get a better job (as someone in academia who also has a kid)

  6. I got mine while unemployed. It doesn’t matter as long as the household has enough income to support everyone.
