  1. Unlikely but seeing this made me yearn for New Japan from that time. It was great being a fan then. Half of these was due to the prior champions having signed up to AEW and we had no clue how it was going to turn out, despite the predictability of the results (it turned out fine). The pandemic and stale booking fucked everything up.

  2. I wouldn’t rule it out, there’ll surely be an event where it makes sense for every title to change hands

It’s funny that this wasn’t originally planned though, as Ospreay would have walked into WK13 as the NEVER champion if he hadn’t gotten injured before he was scheduled to beat Taichi for the title, and Tanahashi likely wouldn’t have beaten Omega if he was staying in NJPW, so that might make it more likely since plans can always change

  3. Nope, because they didn’t all change on that night, the 6 man belts weren’t defended

  4. I guess it’s possible in theory, with the right set of wrestlers, there one less title now, which makes it slightly easier (IWGP World Heavyweight, Never Openweight, U.S. Heavyweight, IWGP Junior Heavyweight, Heavyweight Tag Titles, Junior Tag Titles) that would need to change hands, the photo doesn’t count the Never 6-Man Titles, so I’m not going to count them in this either.

  5. WK13, I was there.

Kenny, Kushida and Cody all left after that, so that’s why those belts changed hands. Kenny would have definitely kept the belt had he not left.

  6. This was them purging the Elite from the promotion. Kenny out, Bucks out, Cody out, etc. Tanahashi was certainly not meant to win and they transitioned to Jay almost immediately.

Probably won’t happen again. The birth of AEW was a once-in-a-century kind of event.

  7. We likely won’t only because they want to do a two night Wrestle Kingdom from now on, so not all titles would be on one night.

But conceptually, no, I don’t think it’s that unlikely. Jay White would probably lose the title to Okada or some other top level face, Karl Anderson as NEVER champion is not that well protected, and then the US and tag titles jump around fairly often.

The only one that might not change hands is the junior title if it’s on KUSHIDA by the time Jan 4 rolls around. But if it’s KUSHIDA going into Wrestle Kingdom as a challenger to Ishimori, that’s a pretty easy title change to make.

  8. I’m a sucker for stuff like this. “The biggest event of the year? Every title changes hands! Except maybe one. We’ll see”.
