i want to ship out a care package to family overseas

just heard from my grandma that shipping items is limited to only 7 items per package, is that true? and is there any way to bypass it with loopholes such as naming it in example:
” item 1 x 50 pieces ”
or do i have to indivusually name everything and hope for the best? i haven’t dealt with japanese post since 2020 and im worried something might go wrong and i want to know how i could prepare for everything please and thank you. i do know that i have to weigh everything but can i limit the information with
” item 50 pieces ( X grams ) ”
im trying to send out non battery based toy goods in bulk as a care package

  1. I skimped on the ems delivery 2 months ago and my package to states still hasn’t arrived. I sent a box of snacks and small toys. I’d say about 40 items totaling about 7 kilograms. When sending a package I was told I had to sign up and make a Japan post account. That was the most annoying.

  2. You need to use the online system to pre-fill all informations including custom declaration to satisfy the Electronics Advanced Data (EAD) requirement of most country customs. In the Japan Post system, the mobile version limit you to 7 lines (I think, I have never hit the limit), the desktop limit to 10.

You can specify number of pieces for each items, but it need to be specific enough. You can’t put “Stationary x20”, etc, because “stationery” is too broad. “Plush toys” I believe is good enough without having to go into more specific, but it also depend on the JP Post staff that check your waybill whether it’s okay or not.

  3. I used extremely broad categories. I was able to get away with calling a lot of stuff “home decor” for example. My piece of advise it to not call anything a “letter.” I did, meaning like, a personal handwritten letter, but the staff interpreted it to mean “mail” and that causes a bunch of confusion. Your box will be opening for inspection after you leave and your paperwork can be amended over the phone if needed (apperently water bottles aren’t “home decor”).

I was told that if you have more than 3 items, they can’t do the QR code easy customs label. If you use the mobile site and enter more than 3 items, the post office staff has to manually input all your data into a new form which takes 3 times as long. Or at least that was how it worked for me. My JP Post people never quite know what they’re doing though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if other people have different experiences
