Getting a Visa while in Japan

Hey, looking to tr to start the process of getting a work visa while currently in Japan. Im military and have been here for a year, and recently got a job opportunity in Tokyo to work for a media and sales company should I get my visa and choose to seperate. I’ve looked into the process and everything is pointing me to filling out the VISA paperwork and COE at a Japanese Embassy. Im assuming this is stateside advice and I dont know if theres an online option or one I can take advantage of while im hee in Japan.

  1. There is a form for a “request of status change” and that is just taken to immigration office. It’s what I had to use when I switched from a work visa to SOFA. The easiest thing to do is get a lawyer but they are expensive. Which is why I am also researching the status change to switch back to a work visa (base legal gave me everything and I just needed to take it to immigration, so I’m not sure of the process). But if your company is sponsoring your visa (I’m pretty sure they have to) then they will probably do it for you.

  2. SOFA -> work visa should be possible as long as you get a job lined up and have a degree.

you want “change of status of residence” application. your company can maybe help you out with this.
