Simple items to buy/sell in Japan and the U.S.

Going back to the U.S. next month for a visit and I was wondering if there are some basic items I might buy in Japan and sell on eBay and/or buy in the U.S. and sell on Mercari when I get back to make a little extra cash. Anyone have any experience with anything like that? For example, it seems like Trader Joe bags are really popular in Japan at the moment.

  1. No real advice, but if you come back from your trip with multiples of the same item and it is obvious you are bringing it to sell and you don’t declare that to customs you could get in trouble/fined. Just a PSA.

I wouldn’t bring food items since they have expiration dates. Maybe pursue the different hashtags on Mercari and see what looks like they’ve sold recently.

  2. My friend buys cheap Pokémon stuff at the Pokémon center and makes a killing in America 😂
They apparently have “Japan limited edition” stuff that people are willing to pay ridiculous prices for.

  3. You might want to look at anime figurines/plushies/&c. It might take a bit of legwork looking for expensive ones on ebay and seeing if you can find those or similar ones used, but I’ve heard of people making a bunch of money that way.
