Sent a large 29kg parcel home to the UK on the 25th of April.
I’ve done a fair bit of digging on reddit and found out that last year quite a few people in Scandanavia and Northern Europe had surface mail take 6+months to arrive, with no tracking updates whatsoever.
As my parcel is approachig 6 months and it contains lots of artwork I personally made. Sentimental value is very high so I’m a bit stressed out it’s either gone missing/stolen/been thrown out
As I’m leaving Japan, when I sent the parcel I stupidly ticked “abandon if underliverable”, instead of “return to sender”, as I knew I would no longer be in the country and also knew someone would always be at home in the UK.
I’m wondering now if some posties might have seen that as a ticket out of lifting a 29kg parcel into a van……

Used in late July, came to France in late September.
The packages in the UK especially london are currently backed up, like a significant delay. (I know this because of my husband’s job)
I sent one to Bulgaria in July and also chose the abandon option and was worrying for a bit but it arrived last week.
Been sending 1-3 parcels around 20-25 kgs each like every 3-4 months to Scandinavia for the past 5 years. Most of the time they’re ok, but sometimes they take half a year. Not one has disappeared.
