I was attempting to sign up online because I wanted to avoid talking but at the payment step it would only allow Mastercard payments.
I don’t have a Mastercard so it’s a bit annoying but not enough to stop me. The real question here is whether or not Visa can be used in stores?
Costco isn’t really close to me so I’d rather not go out of my way if I can’t pay with my preferred card. I know I can just pay with cash, but still… 😅

No, they only accept mastercard or cash.
Last I checked, yes Costco Japan only accepts Mastercard.
Why don’t they take visa? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of another place that takes credit card but not visa.
You can probably get the Amazon mastercard fairly easily, if you are a prime member it’s “free”
For online shopping they only accept Japanese Mastercards. My Japanese card’s a Visa and I was going to just use my Mom’s American Mastercard (with permission) to order something, but it wouldn’t accept a foreign credit card. This was in 2021, so it’s possible things have changed, but I doubt it
Just make a Mastercard with PayPay. I only use it for Costco. I hated paying in cash because I never knew how much I needed.
Is Costco any good online? Maybe it’s just me but every time I check it seems to be 1/4 of the selection you can get in stores.
If you plan on going more than once a year, why not make the Costco Mastercard? It’s free for the first year, and even from the second year onwards, the annual fee is waived if you use it more than once.
And only some Mastercards at that. My overseas card works, my dad’s (also overseas) didn’t.
Yes MasterCard or cash only in Japanese Costco, unlike the US which only takes Visa credit card or cash
Really? I could have sworn my wife pays with visa. Lucky I haven’t bought anything big there by myself.
Mine (Amagasaki) takes cash and my American Mastercard. Never had a problem.
You can get the WebMoney prepaid Mastercard for free and load it with money from another credit card (Visa, JCB, etc).
