Language school requirement

I’m about to finish high school and was interested in furthering my studies in Japan. I looked up the language school requirements on many schools and 1 thing has been bugging me. They said you need 12 years of formal education but I see that in order to enter a university you need 12 years of formal education. For me, After finishing high school this year I would have 11 years of formal education. I googled and saw YouTube videos saying that you can complete your 12 years of formal education in language schools to enter university.

So do you need 12 years of formal education to enter language school or no?

Or is it different for each school?

  2. Don’t take it so literally. All you need to get a student visa is a highschool degree or a highschool equivalent certificate (like a GED for Americans).

  3. You need highschool diploma to go to a language school in japan.

But I tend to recommend going there so early only if you know how Japanese will help your career/future.
I have seen too many people go there, spend 2 years, just to come back to their home country after because they had no other skill than speaking Japanese
And on top of that they had a student loan to cover the expenses there

Of course you can do things like vocational school in Japan or university there too. But think about before, so you have some goals in mind and you know how Japanese will be useful to you

  4. Forgot to put this in but any language school recommendations? Preferably outside Tokyo since I heard the cost of living is way too much. I’ve been looking at some school near fukuoka and kyoto.

  5. For language school I think a diploma is enough, but do check with universities if your country’s high school diploma is enough for admission, and whether going to language school will help with admission should your diploma not be enough.

I know in the UK people from some countries have to do a foundation year due to their high school diploma not being enough for admission directly into undergraduate degrees. I don’t know if Japan might have the same thing going but worth looking into.
