Trip Report: 1.5 days in Lake Kawaguchiko

We flew in from Malaysia and took a 3-hour bus from **Narita Airport (Terminal 2)** and disembarked at **Kawaguchiko station**.

**Hotel**
We stayed at Jinya Kawaguchijo ([https://maps.app.goo.gl/x9LmqEtz3AsbPcZH8](https://maps.app.goo.gl/x9LmqEtz3AsbPcZH8)) which is 8 minutes from Kawaguchiko Station and a 1-2 minutes’ stroll from the Lawson store, which happens to be a popular photo spot of Mount Fuji.

**Itinerary**
Day 1:
• Lake Kawaguchiko
• Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway
• Boat ride

Day 2:
• Chureito Pagoda
• Shimoyoshida Honcho Street (Fuji Scenic View) [https://maps.app.goo.gl/GbmAXRFQuJZ9Usy46](https://maps.app.goo.gl/GbmAXRFQuJZ9Usy46)
• FabCafe Fuji [https://maps.app.goo.gl/iGw2xeHbfNADudDt6](https://maps.app.goo.gl/iGw2xeHbfNADudDt6)

**How to get to Lake Kawaguchiko**
• Use Google Maps to navigate your way to the lake. The terrain is generally flat and you can easily walk there. At times, you might find yourself walking along the road which is fine because cars are minimal.

• Both the ropeway and boat ride are located at Lake Kawaguchiko. If you plan to enjoy both activities on the same day, make sure to purchase a combined ticket (¥1600). We didn’t know and bought them separately (¥1000 + ¥900).

⚠️ The operating hours of the ropeway on Google Maps can be somewhat confusing. The **last cable car to ascend to the top departs at 4.20pm**. Once you’re at the summit, the **last descent is scheduled at 5.20pm**. We witnessed several tourists who assumed the operation ceased at 5.00pm and wanted to take the cable car up. Please plan accordingly to avoid disappointment.

**How to get to Chureito Pagoda or Arayama Sengen Park**
• Head to Kawaguchiko station. The earliest train bound for Chureito Pagoda departs at 7.30am. There’s a poster at the station indicating which stop to alight at. There were only a handful of people on the train and we had good views of Mount Fuji on the ride.

• Upon arrival at Chureito Pagoda station, follow the signboards along the road to reach the pagoda. The view is truly breathtaking and worthwhile waking up early for.

**Food**
• [Hotou Fudo](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ha3hdr7y2dcFcfJW8) is delicious! It’s in front of the Kawaguchiko station.
• [Fuji Tempura Idaten](https://maps.app.goo.gl/CNy1nx5p6mYfK6R88) near the Lawson store. You’ll see a long queue, but it’s sooo good!

**Observations:**
• If you’re staying within walking distance from Kawaguchiko Station, it’s not advisable to get the 2-day unlimited pass (¥1,700). All the articles I read suggested to get the pass, and so we did immediately upon arrival. However, we didn’t use it at all and gave them away before we left.

• If you eventually need to take the bus, you can **use a Suica card which you must purchase at Narita Airport** as it’s not available in convenience stores.
