Is it frowned upon? I know my way around a car and I’m just going for a new battery. I would like to replace it and give them my old one while I’m there rather than going home , do the replacement and come back.
No problem at all, as long as you buy the battery in the store. Though they will install a new battery without charge in most cases.
I’ve changed the lights on my car a couple of times outside the home center. A few people looked at me and my wife called me ワイルド, other than that no problem.
Just don’t dump the battery anywhere you shouldn’t (like in the ocean).
At Autobacs, you can get maintenance done in the parking lot. They’ve always had trash bins to dispose of packages from purchased parts and old wiper blades that were replaced. Rest assured, you won’t face any issues whatsoever.
If you show them the receipt for the newly purchased battery, they’ll even take the old one off your hands for disposal, free of charge. 🙂
