I have been trying to create a LINE account for the past month while living in Japan, and I’ve been unsuccessful. All of the sources online say that you can create an account with Facebook or email. I’ve downloaded the app for android, iOS, and MacBook. I only have the option to create an account with a phone number, on all 3 of those platforms.

Use a landline number.
To create a Line account, you need a device that can receive text messages or phone calls.

Creating a Line account using a Facebook account was discontinued in April 2020.

Currently, you cannot create it without a phone number.
What I wanna know is why you don’t have a phone number?
You’re gonna need that for a lot more than just LINE.
According to LINE themselves, it’s simply not possible. Which is a good thing, because it (somewhat) stops scammers and such.
It was changed to phone number only a while back to try and crack down on spam and scams. You need a number that can be verified with a text message or else you can’t make an account.
Do you not have a cell phone, even from your home country? You can create an account using your phone number from (some) overseas countries. For example, I have an account for my US phone and created a second one with my JP phone after I lost access to my US LINE account.
