Youtube – Educational Channels for Toddlers?

For English channels, I have my toddler watching Sesame Street and other similar, better quality programming when we watch TV/Youtube.

…however, my wife has let jesus take the wheel and handed pretty much everything over to the algorithm, so my toddler has been watching bottom of the barrel crap in Japanese.

Can anyone recommend any channels for Japanese content for toddlers? (2-3 yo)

I’d like to stick to stuff we choose, not the algorithm.

  1. But without the algorithm, how will they see videos of Spider-Man force feeding Elsa from Frozen, the Epstein Institute says kids need that! /s

Jack Hartmann, NumberRock and the like are all great, but if you’re not watching it with them, eventually you’re going ro have crap seep in.

  2. I don’t have any recommendations for Japanese YouTube channels, but if you have a paid NHK subscription, the NHK Plus website lets you view all their children’s shows online for no extra cost. I find those shows quite helpful and much better overall than kids shows in the US.

Also wanted to give a vote for Ms. Rachel for English. My daughter (2) has better English than a lot of American 2 year olds and I can only credit myself for like 10% of that, the rest of the credit goes to Ms. Rachel.

  3. Get them on some NHK Eテレ and pay the NHK man. No, seriously. It’s worth it just for Pitagora Switch.

Something like Netflix is better, but even then never let the algorithm take the wheel. You need to set rules now or it’ll be pain later when you try and suddenly change the rules.

For youtube, my son liked watching a lot of legit shows you can get on there, like Curious George. Bonus is you can get them in both English and Japanese. Bad part is on youtube it’s all random clips instead of full episodes. You can also find not-so-legit channels with full episodes of shows like Thomas and stuff.

RANDOM CURIOUS GEORGE FACT: Actually by watching both you can figure out that George speaks English even in the Japanese version. Like in English:

Man: What’s that you got there George?

    George: Ha-hi. (Candy)

    Man: Oh, candy.

    In Japanese:

    Man: 何持っている、ジョージ?

    George: Ha-hi. (Candy)

    Man: 飴か。

  4. I’ll be *that old guy*… Why is your 2-3yo toddler getting any screen time at all? Are you **trying** to create an ADHD-addled kid?
