  1. Sushi from this supermarket has been solidly okay in the past. Not spectacular, but acceptable for the price.

Brown rice is a first for me. The flavor of the rice masks all other flavors. The texture is interesting, though.

Edit – I think I’m unhappy with the absence of vinegar in the rice. I like that tang!

  2. Brown rice is really overpowering for sushi. That’s why I’m not a fan of it.

Supermarket sushi can be hit and miss. I thought Meijer in the midwest was really really good. Kroger and Albertson’s have been hit-or-miss for me. Whole Foods is decent. I dislike how they usually do inside out rolls, I prefer nori on the outside.

  3. Yeah, I feel like supermarket sushi is very hit or miss. I used to get sushi from Kroger pretty regularly and it was either REALLY good or REALLY bad lol

  4. Brown rice sushi is a good option for people with dietary restrictions. The texture and flavor can be pretty overwhelming sometimes especially when you’re used to and expecting typical sushi rice.

  5. Here in LA the best supermarket sushi is from AFC fish company. Sometimes they’re at Von’s/Pavilions and sometimes they’re at Ralph’s. It’s all about how the rice is prepared and AFC has the best tasting rice.

  6. Supermarket sushi is literally the lowest form of sushi, I would say bordering a different type of food. It’s like Chef Boyardee compared to a quality Italian restaurant

  7. Brown rice is a gimmick. It’s harder to process the hulls so leaving them on is cheaper to produce. They marketed it as healthier but its really not that much better for you, just some additional nutrients.

  8. You typed out “from the supermarket” but still powered through to make a post about said sushi’s quality
