Hello! Incoming JET here! I’m reading a bunch of threads in this subreddit that mention dealing with “kyoto sensei” and I was wondering what/who that refers to?
Thats the title of your vice principal, “Kocho” sensei is principal. So no matter their name I always just refer to their titles.

Depending on their preference/your school, they can also be called LastName-sensei though. My school has multiple VPs so we always use their name to call/refer to them.
We also have a Jimu-chou or head admin. Not sure if this applies for other schools.
Kyoto is the one who does all the work. Kocho is the one who looks after the garden.

There’s always one teacher who comes from Kyoto who has been taught in the traditional teaching arts by a teaching grandmaster at Kinkakuji. It’s customary to refer to him as the Kyoto-sensei.
