24 Itinerary – Tokyo, Hakon, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Kanazawa, Takayama, Tokyo

Hi everyone

I was super intimidated when creating the itinerary for our Japan trip, i wanted to spend more time on it (plan it a year in advance) but due to us having a tight schedule it was planned a in kind of a rush.
For example i found out about how cool Koyasan is and found out about a cool knife sharpening course all too late 😢
We want to do as much as realistically possible, so we’d appreciate any feedback and suggestions from this awesome community ❤️

*Note:* We’re going in a week, so the sun is falling a bit earlier for us, we’ll try to compensate by getting up super early.

**Day 1 Tokyo**
Arrival – later in the day so no expectations
\- buying SUICA,
\- exchanging cash,
\- finding hotel (bus more convenient for luggage?)
**Day 2 Tokyo**
\- Harajuku

\- Meiji Jingû, the imperial shrine

\- Takeshita-Dori

\- Omotesando

\- Shibuya and its “crossroads”
**Day 3 Tokyo**
\- Ginza

\- Tsukiji

\- Hamarikyu

\- Asakusa

\- Sensô-ji Buddhist temple

\- The road of Nakamise Dôri

\- Tokyo Sky Tree (maybe replacing with Shibuya sky later on?)
**Day 4 Hakone**
\- luggage sent to the hotel in Kyoto

\- Shinjuku station to activate Hakone Free Pass and board a train to Hakone Yumoto.
\- doing the full round course

\- Back at ryokan for our Onsen reservation at 16:00 (its outside so trying to catch the day)
**Is the 16:00 onsen too early considering the round course?**
**Day 5 Kyoto**

\- Gion
\- Kiyomizu-Dera, the great water temple

\- The historical streets of Sannen-zaka & Ninnen-zaka

\- Kodai-ji, the maple and bamboo temple of Kyoto
**Day 6 Kyoto**
\- Nishiki

\- Nijo castle

\- Arashiyama
**Day 7 Kyoto/Nara**
\- Fushimi Inari (thinking of moving this to a different Kyoto day)
\- Day trip to Nara
**Day 8 Kyoto/Osaka**
\- Osaka Universal Studios early morning (not doing Nintendo really from what i’ve read online, so we don’t spend the entire day there)
\- Free Osaka? Suggestions?

**Day 9 Hiroshima**
\-Travelling to Hiroshima
\-Visit the park and the peace memorial, the castle and its park
\-Trying okonomiyaki

**Day 10 Hiroshima**
\- Mijayima

**Day 11 Kanazawa (stop at Himeji castle)**
\- Travelling to Kanazawa
\- Visiting Himeji castle

**Day 12 Kanazawa**
\- Kenroku-en
\- The contemporary art museum and its outdoor gallery
\- Omicho
\- The Nomura house

**Day 13 Takayama**
\- Sending luggage to Tokyo
\- Travelling to Takayama
\- By bus so we can visit Shirakawago?

**Day 14 Takayama**
\- The traditional Kusakabe and Yoshijima houses
\- The Yatai Kaikan
\- Shôwa-Kan museum
\- The old Sannomachi shopping district

**Day 15-24 Tokyo**
\- Travelling to Tokyo
Following things we want to visit on any of the rest of the Tokyo days:
\- Akihabara
\- Nakamise-dori Street
\- Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
\- Teamlab planets
\- Ueno park
\- Yoyogi park
\- Day trip to Nikko?

**Day 25 Tokyo**
23.05 PM flight, last day
Maybe we can do something that day due to a late flight?

Also, any audio guide suggestions? We know very little of the places we’re visiting so we’re we could use something to give use context so we can appreciate everything better 😊
