How far is your daily commute? Does anyone get paid for commuting? Usually I travel between an 1-1.5hr. If I use a vehicle traffic can make it over 2 hours
34-minute train ride, but door-to-door it takes about an hour. Commute is reimbursed.
Two work places, one by car one on foot, both under 10 minutes 😎
Door to door about 1,5 h (about 45-50 m train ride, rest is walking to/from station) Travel expenses reimbursed by the company.
Door to door , Bout 45 minutes one way.
15-20 minutes door to door currently, company reimburses all transit fees.
1.5 hours each way, 3 days a week. I’m job hunting.
Less than 10min by bike 😎 Companies should pay for the commute from home to work.
25 minutes train ride each way, about 45 minutes door to door.
15 mins door to door, fees reimbursed but time spent commuting doesn’t count towards work hours.
With getting paid by commuting you mean that your time is paid, ie it counts as work time? This is getting more common in certain countries and I added it as conditions in my contract. Just to edit..I WFH but occasionally go to the office or customer visits, that commute time is counted as working time
50 or so minutes, but I’m sick and tired.
Transit is usually covered until a certain amount (if not stay away from that place), commute time itself not unless counted as travel expense (during work hours). Until recently it was door to door 40 minutes. Now it is 90 minutes (if unlucky about 110) . A lot of people in Tokyo have around 1h of commute and some even up to 2h when still living home with family. If you are still single it might be nice to cut down on some commute time as it can be very straining.
– If I work from home: 30 seconds from bedroom to home office. – If I go to the office: 50 minutes door to door.
I’m not paid for the time I spent commuting, just the train fare, which is why I rarely go to the office nowadays.
About 30 mins from door to door by train, central Tokyo.
The number of co-workers and other people I know in Tokyo area who have 1 hour+ commutes is wild to me. I often feel like I don’t understand why people choose to live so far out in Chiba, Kanagawa etc. But then I look at the small box I live in and I start to understand a bit…
20mins one way by car and I get ¥1man a month gas money…
One minute. I’m so lucky, bought a unit next to the station, but don’t need it as my business is across the street.
Work from home. Around 5min walk whenever I want to go to office.
These commutes are stupid. Just move. Just because it’s “normal” doesn’t mean you should participate. Anything more than 20-30mins is unhealthy for life.
20 minutes walk. You couldn’t pay me enough to enjoy Tokyo rush hour. This way I can live in a fantastic city, and avoid the worst part.
1 hr door to door. Commuter pass is compensated; time traveling is not
door to door about an hour total. 20 minutes total of walking, 40 on the train (no transfers). I get reimbursed for the commute but definitely not paid.
ik others have way worse commutes but the sensory hell of dealing with sardine trains and shibuya station every single day alone has me job hunting for anything with at least partial WFH
I used to do 2 hrs door to door but after 1 1/2 years of that I moved and went to one hour. I think when you say get paid for commuting you mean for the time it takes? No But if you mean the cost of train/bus then yea.
I inherited my grandparents’ 銘木 business, which opened in 1959.
Our ancestral home is right across the street from the the 工場, so my commute is about 10 seconds lmao.
About 90 minutes each way. I just end up listening to a lot of music and/or scrolling through a lot of Reddit. Today I forgot to pack my headphones… so Reddit it is.
The job is good and my apartment is good, so I can deal with the commute until the apartment contract runs out.
25 mins by Gravel bike but not on gravel 🙁
Door to door is around 25 minutes one way (walk 10, train 10, walk 5). My commuter pass is fully covered by my company but the time spent commuting is not. I can use the commuter pass to travel that route on other days at no additional cost though which is nice.
30 minutes door to door, give it take. and yes my commute is paid! 9 or 6 minutes on the rapid / local.
It’s the 10 minutes to the office / walk to the train that takes the most!
Door to Door
Driving: 22 minutes one way
or
Bus and Walk: About 1 hour one way. (15 minute bus ride, the rest walking)
