Hi, my friend recently applied for a tourist Japanese visa (single-entry), it is his first time applying, so here are all the documents he sent for application:
\-Passport (Apparently new, his old one has Korean visa and stamps)
\-Itinerary (10 days) to Nagoya
\-Bank Certificate
\-Recent birth Certificate
\-No ITR since work is contractual, made a letter and was accepted by the agency

The agency is Reli Tours.
Some documents that he prepared but was not accepted by Reli (not needed anymore as they said): COE, Company ID, Bank Statement

I was just wondering what went wrong. (Agency does not dismiss the reason of deny) Is there a way for him to go to Japanese Embassy directly to ask why he got denied? And is there a way to make-shift this?

We are honestly trying to do this now because I am not sure when can he try to apply next and if there will be an opportunity for him to travel next time.
Thank you

Japanese immigration doesn’t usually disclose their reasons for denial, so he’s probably out of luck there.
There is also nothing that we can do to help him except speculate.
Where is your friend from and does he have a past history with Japan?
I’ve heard isolated stories of SE Asian nationals applying for a visa to Korea (so in theory Japan might care too) where apparently a new passport with no stamps is seen as higher risk of overstaying their visa, for some reason. Maybe try again in the future after doing some other traveling first?
i have a friend who needed a visa, my friend booked an appointment slot on japan embassy’s website and went there directly. the lady at the counter would take a look at your documents and determine if they want to give you a visa. i don’t know why you mentioned an agency. my friend brought bank statements, i think it’s the most important thing to show that you already have money and you’re not going there to work illegally.
It’s weird that Reli Tours didn’t let your friend add his bank statement, however I heard stories of sketchy agencies with fake bank statements.
Embassy doesn’t provide reason for rejection but with your info, I can speculate two things:
– he got denied due to his travel history: going back and forth in Korea doesn’t prove anything. It is best to travel on another visa-free first like TW or SG
– his tax records/contractual work: no strong reason to return to PH.
– or just bad RNG to be honest.
You can ask Reli tours for when he can apply again. AFAIK he can try apply again within 6 months for the same purpose (single-entry tourist visa) and there’s improvement on his application
Is your friend single, in the age group which is prime for working?
Most people don’t go to Nagoya as their first trip to Japan as well.
Based on the list of documents in the embassy site, an itinerary and the likes were also required. Proof of income is required tho so not sure why the agency didn’t require it.
Are you sponsoring your friend?
If I have to guess, Probably didn’t demonstrate strong ties to home country. High risk to overstay
So, it’s crazy that they didn’t accept his COE and company ID. UHI has always allowed us to submit extra docs to support our application. Did his bank cert have ADB? If it didn’t, they should have accepted his bank statement as well.
It’s also very much possible that his “show money” was too low. The general consensus in the phtravel sub is to present a bank account with enough money for a budget of 10k a day. So, his bank account should have had a minimum of 100k. He could’ve submitted a shorter itinerary, as well. Unfortunately, he can only try again after 6 months.
