Is Kyoto, near Kyoto and Hokkaido way too hard to find a job in for a student compared to Tokyo ?

I hope is not too generic to ask, is it considerably harder or way too hard for a student to find a part time job/English teaching without a degree and experience in Kyoto/Osaka near Kyoto and it’s surroundings comparing to Tokyo ? And Hokkaido I suppose might be very hard always ? I actually don’t know but saw some people saying.

I am going to Japan next year to do the 2 years Japanese Language course and also planning on starting an undergraduate course on Physics or Engineering in 2025 or 2026, depending how it works out and want to at least replace as much as much as possible the money I have saved for University and Language School.

To detail more, I am researching cities overall and these two places seems to fall on better on my needs, I want a place that can be more calm, good looking with plenty of things to do such vising pretty places, hiking, good food since I have OCD, Autism and ADHD, but also that I won’t be bored if I want to go out at night sometimes like weekends with friends, Tokyo looks really nice but if it would be possible to spend less I think I would prefer.

Thank you for reading or answering,

  2. I think its easy to do English teaching anywhere. Many of my friends here in Hokkaido do it…sometimes they are associated with an eikaiwa, which unfortunately pays terrible (expect your boss to keep 80% and you 20%) and some people teach english themselves and charge 1500Yen an hour.

If I remember correctly, Hokkaido Uni has a small division that helps students find jobs, though dont quote me on this. You also have Arukita (a website) usually catering towards students.

Sapporo is not as crowded as Kyoto, which might be good for you. Rent is also relatively cheap.

  3. I would recommend improving your English language proficiency before you consider teaching English to others.
