So today, i went to MUFG to change my bank status from 非居住者 to 居住者. Process was simple. Just had to sign a paper and press my hanko. But the weird part was where i am supposed to put today’s date.
The bank teller tells me to put 7年10月17日. Didn’t really think much of it. I just automatically assumed year 7 was Japanese date. I wrote it how she asked me to, she saw it, and then everything proceeded just fine. Now im finding out that it’s not even year 7. It’s year 5. 令和 5 to be precise. So now i am confused.
Anyone have possible explanation for this?
Also how do i check if my bank is actually now 居住者. They helped me setup online banking on the spot after. Is there a way for me to check through the app?

Could this be your residence card expiration date, which would be the date until when the account is allowed to remain open?
Are you sure that was today’s date? I’d have a reliable third party check your copy, or the photo you always take of anything and everything you sign.
Worst case: ask the bank.

There’s your problem. Why didn’t you ask the clerk to explain what year 7 was for when you were writing it?
