I’m about to go to Nagoya to study this october to Genkijacs.. I’ve been studying seriously for about a year now, 340 days of anki every day while also filling up about 1200 pages of kanji. My idea was to get as much vocab as possible before moving, but I’ve only done about 1300 words of the core deck. Problem is when I try to read or come up with something I just go blanc, will the immersion and classes help me with this? I don’t feel any progress right now and it makes it hard for me to keep studying.

Start reading easier things and build your way up. Studying kanji doesn’t help you learn to read as well as you might think.
