Hey r/movingtojapan community! As I’m on the brink of turning 31 in February, I’m diving into the intricacies of working holiday visa applications for Japan. Currently residing in Australia with dual citizenships from New Zealand and England, I’m mindful of the approaching cutoff, as February marks the end of eligibility for working holiday visas.
I’ve done my research on the visa processes, but I find myself feeling anxious about the age cutoff and the hurdles of leaving my current residence to sort this out.
I’m eager to hear from those who have faced similar situations—residing in one country but needing to return to their home country for the visa application, and/or dealing with the age cutoff. Additionally, if anyone has knowledge about specific details in the application process behind New Zealand or the UK, I’d greatly appreciate your input.
Feel free to share any other relevant details or tips. I can read hiragana and katakana and navigate basic conversations and interactions. Having explored Japan three times, totaling around three months, and with friends in both Tokyo and Osaka, I’m enthusiastic about making the most of this opportunity. Thank you for your assistance.

I applied for my WHV about 2 months before the cut off, received the visa itself 4 weeks out and didn’t travel for another 11 months. think of the visa application as a box ticking exercise, if you match all the criteria it’ll be fine. I was nervous until I realized they’re just doing their job.
