Can you activate JR Pass at the Tourist Information Centre at Haneda Airport? [ANSWER]

This is my third attempt posting here regarding the research I’ve done for my upcoming Japan trip. If the mods could kindly keep this up, I’m sure people have tried searching for the same answer. Otherwise, if this needs to be removed, some guidance of where I can post this would be appreciated.

There is varying information online about whether or not you can activate your JR Pass at the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at Haneda Airport.

Firstly, the JR Pass website (JRPass.com) has a blog post indicating that you can attend the TIC at Haneda Airport Terminal 2 between 06:00-23:00 to activate your JR Pass.

However, I had seen a recent Google review from 2 weeks ago with someone asking the same question and the owner of TIC responded advising you can only activate your JR Pass at the JR East Travel Service Centre at Terminal 3 between 06:45-20:00, or at the TIC counter Terminal 2 between 06:00-13:30. This information is confirmed when you view the timetable on the japanrailpass.net website.

So, unless anyone has had experience activating their JR Pass at TIC between 20:00-23:00 when the JR East Travel Service Centre is closed — I believe the JR Pass website is incorrect about the hours. Based on the owners response from the Google review, you can only activate your JR Pass at TIC between 06:00-13:30.

  1. If you are landing after the JR Office is closed – just wait until the next morning or try to get to Tokyo Station asap

  2. I would like this clarified, too! I thought about making a post about it but every time I try to post anything here it gets removed so I’ve just been waiting for someone else to ask.

  3. [JRPass.com](https://JRPass.com) is not the JR Pass website. It’s the website of a reseller (a UK based company to be exact).

JR Pass website is this : [https://japanrailpass.net/en/](https://japanrailpass.net/en/)

  4. Don’t active your pass until you leave Tokyo anyway. You don’t get your money’s worth just taking the Yamanote line around, and it’s faster to take the subway anyways. Just get an IC card before you leave the airport!
