I have no clue. My employer doesn’t even know my phone number.
But if they want to inventory your phone, they should be paying for it. Not you. Through the years, I’ve seen a lot of full-time employees using their personal phones to call clients and providers. Red flag.
I think the worst they can do is maybe know what provider is compatible with your phone and depending on phone manufacturers, it may be used to track your location via lost phone functions.
If they need your IMEI to issue you a work Sim card so that your phone can be used for business purposes, it would theoretically allow them to track your calls and possibly which websites you visit.
They might have an app that uses it for logging in.
I have a communication app that registers the IMEI number so you can only use it on an authorised device.
Otherwise, could be a GITEKI license crackdown catching people using foreign unlicensed phones.
Are they giving you a company SIM card? Or 2FA login credentials for their IT systems?
Backwards way of doing it, as your IMEI would be automatically registered from your first activation using the device, but hey…the “IT Manager” at this small firm is likely also the HR and Finance guy.
