Doing freelance for companies in Japan after leaving Japan?

I’m thinking of going back to where my parents live for a years to take care of them.

I’m currently working in a Japanese company in Tokyo as a software developer. I was thinking maybe to do freelance for companies in Japan from my parents country while taking care of them.

Has anyone done this? How did you find it?

Thanks!

  1. I know of a couple of people who do freelance work. To be honest, it’s not easy, for things like software development, employers/managers tend to like to see people actually working. You will need to have a really good connection and to have built up that trust.

My company leverages several multi-national agencies for digital marketing and software development. My suggestion would be to checkout employment opportunities with those kind of companies. Some are fully remote, offer flexible on working situations or will hire on a contract or per-project basis. I know a couple of moms that are doing contract work to have flexibility to take care of kids.

Also, multi-national agencies might have an office in the country you want to move to so you can do an intra-company transfer.
