Just moved to Japan with my Japanese wife after living together in the US for 9 years. She has a crusty old iPhone 6 and needs a new phone. However, she does not have a Japanese credit card and basically everywhere she has inquired has insisted on payment by credit card, no cash. She can’t get a credit card because she doesn’t have a job.
In an ironic twist of fate, I lost my phone in a large body of water last month before we moved and had to buy a new one beforehand so I’m doing just fine. Anyways, how does one acquire a new phone (preferably iPhone) here with cash or a US credit card?
This might seem like a really dumb question, but please be gentle—I’m asking on behalf of my wife, and I know better than to try and solve her problems for her so I haven’t done all the research myself.

We bought a new iPhone from the apple store with cash. No problem at all.
Is it the phone and SIM card together you’re having an issue with? That, you need a credit card for.
Order online from Apple? Amazon?
What do you mean you can’t buy one by cash? I bought my iPhone outright from Yodobashi and you can from obvious places like the Apple store.
Anyway housewives can get credit cards based on your salary. I know Rakuten does.
