She entered in 2017 on nearly expired JP passport, tried to get it renewed, passport office sussed it out and confiscated the passport, and she had to return to the US on her US passport which had no exit stamp. When she returned in 2020 she had to use her US passport, and she’s now in a legal gray area – seems like immigration-wise she’s a US citizen that overstayed, but domestically she’s still Japanese. I guess she’s trapped?
Any ideas how the passport office knew she was a dual national?
