Duty and import fees

Hi all,

I have a pair of ski boots that are being replaced under warranty in Canada. My family is going to send me the new boots to Japan via courier. Do I have pay for duties or import fees? I originally purchased them in Canada and they are valued at around ¥115 000. I have the original receipt and warranty request email thread to support my case.

Thanks in advance for your support.

  1. prepare to pay import taxes.

your parents could attach the warranty documents and list the value as zero.

hopefully customs can see the situation.

looking at new boots being sent by family, it might get pinged.

can’t get supplier to send them?

  2. If you have:
    1. Bought those shoes in Japan
    Or
    2. Imported those shoes from overseas and properly paid all the import/taxes in Japan
    (All within one year)
    AND
The shoes have been shipped from Japan.
    AND
You have followed the process in the link below
    [再輸入免税](https://www.fedex.com/content/dam/fedex/apac-asia-pacific/pdfs/IMP-REIMPORT.pdf)

Then you should be eligible to tax reduction or exemption.

Otherwise, you will very likely be asked to pay for import duties and taxes.
