I’d like to know what Japanese bank people use that lets them do a wire transfer while overseas. I’m asking because I’m planning to leave the country, and I’d like to be able to transfer my remaining salary to myself/another account. I currently use Shinsei Bank (I also have a Yucho account I haven’t touched in a few years), but their current system requires SMS verification when you send a wire transfer, which won’t work once I cancel my cell phone contract and get a new number/provider overseas. But I still need to be able to access my money. Could I ask how others generally get around this/what services you use? (Is GoRemit still the go-to here? Can I easily connect Shinsei to this when I’m \*overseas\* and sending money?)

You may be able to change your 2FA to something else than SMS. If that’s not possible with your bank, I’d consider changing banks.
SMS verification is not that safe, anyway.
Depending on when you’re leaving, get signed up for Wise (takes a week to verify your address in Japan by mail).
Shinsei will allow transfers using Symantec’s MFA phone app, by the way.
Either way, Wise is faster and cheaper for most transfers. Your JP bank account won’t remain active in Japan forever, either, so you’ll want to get the money moved ASAP.
Shinsei supports 2FA with an authenticator app via their mobile app. You should switch to that.
