Invite family members to visit Japan

※ English is not my native language, sorry for any mistakes

I have been working in Japan for over a year. Lately, my mom wants to visit my place. Therefore, i am looking for paperwork and othe stuff. It seems that i can prepare some papers such as an invitation letter and procedure and my mom need to prepare some. However, after some research on Google, I m totally overwhelmed.

Is there anyone has done this kind of invitation before ? Can you tell me where i can find useful information ?

  1. Normally the Japanese embassy in your home country will have the most up to date information.

  2. It’s going to really depend on what is needed for a visa for your mom to visit. Google is your friend, search for something like “How can I visit japan if I am from (your home country)”. Some places don’t need a visa, others do and the requirements vary greatly depending on the country.

You are really just looking for tourist visa requirements if she is visiting short term(Less than a few months).

  3. Saying where you are from helps a lot because it might be different. It does feel overwhelming, but then you will notice you will be writing the same thing over and over

  4. I live in Japan and I went through the process to have relatives visit from Thailand. It went relatively smoothly for me once I had all the paperwork together.

Which country is your mom from? It’s hard to give advice without knowing that.

Also, did you start the process on this website https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/visaonline.html ? It has lots of helpful information and a FAQ.
