Hi everyone,
For parents there are few ways to get them to live with you in Japan but I wanted to check if anyone succeeded using a special activity visa, if it can be proved that they cannot live alone outside Japan due to being only child/old age care etc it can be granted however it’s only 1 year period and have to renewed every year. Also if your parent spend most of this 1 year period outside Japan then you cannot renew it again or apply again.
This is what I gathered after talking with immigration and searching online but wanted to see if someone’s parent have the same visa and was able to renew it despite being outside Japan most of the time.
Thank you.

If they’re not going to be in Japan most of the time then why would they want resident status? Couldn’t they just come as tourists?
Going to be brutally honest here… Japan does not want more foreigners who are 1) non Table 2 visa holding Old people as residents taking (medical) resources from the state, and 2) “residents for convenience”
What you have described in your OP is a person falling into both of those categories
It’s already a mission to “call” aging parents to Japan, which is evidence enough that Japan ideally does not want it. And now you want them to be able to renew their visa even though they spend most the year out of Japan I.e a resident for convenience? If your aging parent actually stayed with you in Japan which is what the (already difficult to obtain) visa is permitted for, then great no problem. But getting the visa and becoming a resident (and the benefits which come with that) but it spending much time in Japan… Gotta say, I side with Japan on this one.
