Thinking about a 4 year bachelors degree in English in Osaka – what would the experience be like?

I am in my last year of an IB school in the Netherlands (I’m not Dutch), and looking at universities I will attend next year. The university of Osaka has a good English course that interested me. It has a reasonable price, and student housing price is ok.

I would like to know, however, what life as a college student is really like. At the end of the day, I am going there not only a for a degree, but also the experience. Is it easy to make friends, is there nightlife, are classes good, and is there a general sense of “fun?”

  2. Have you ever lived in Japan? Vacation doesn’t count.

Anything in English is not the same quality as Japanese courses. Japanese degrees, where you study in Japanese, are only good for getting jobs in Japan. The quality is viewed as lower than most G7 nations. The English programs are viewed even lower. Why waste money on a degree that isn’t going to help you develop a career? Just get a job and work up at that point.

  3. Ppl here tend to shit on English degrees in Jp but I haven’t heard anything about the quality of those from ppl studying there.
I got accepted to yamanashi gakuin uni(icla) but haven’t decided if I’m going yet because all the criticism has been kind demotivating lol.
