Do students really have to do a “career plans” in high school?

I’ve seen this happen in many slice of life anime, like Azumanga Daioh and K-On.

K-On second season in particular has its eight episode entirely dedicated towards this premise.

I’m not talking about Shokumu-keirekisho, the particular sheets I’m talking about only have three placeholders for details and doesn’t look nearly as complicated.

Here is a [reference](https://imgur.com/1yAiy1E). I sadly cannot read the Kanji in the centre, so I don’t know what it reads.

If so, is it only in the Third Year?

  1. Yes, it’s real. Students submit their three choices for university or college after graduation. Also in the second year in my memory but this may vary depending on school. The kanji in the center is 進路希望調査 (shinro kibou chousa).
