I’m a freelance tour guide myself and just wondered how many of you lot (Japanese or non-Japanese) are here working in the guiding industry? Given the domination of the industry by the licensed guide-interpreters I only once in a while catch a glimpse of someone who looks less like the older run of the mill guides and wonder if they post or lurk here.
I get requests that I’m not able to fulfil but only know a couple of other guides to whom I can pass on these requests too, there must be more of you out there. Thought it might be cool to see who else is in the game. Feel free to comment or DM if that’s your thing!

I guide from time to time, pretty much as a hobby now, but I’m actually a licensed guide-interpreter (something that I’m actually quite proud of, before the reform of 2018 getting the license was not a walk in the park).
I`ve ever harboured thoughts of starting a freelance motorcycle tour business as a side business. But that`s about it 🙁
I am, in the Kansai area only. I started as a freelance, part time, I’m now quite busy as long as there is not another pandemic :/
I work part-time with a company that’s run by foreigners living in Japan, most of us are unlicensed guides. We do fun experiences and don’t focus on history so much.
I’m a freelancer and only do guided tours at certain popular amusement parks located in neighboring Chiba. 🙂
I’m getting tired of office life. How difficult is it to get started as a tour guide?
I recently joined a weekend gig of a tour guide company in Niigata. Most volunteers are students and such. However, I’m going to guess you are not in Niigata 😂
I have a main job but sometimes help out my friend’s tour business from time to time as a driver/guide/interpreter.
short day trips out to fuji and hakone, airport transfers and the like
Sounds really interesting!
